“There is a Shade of Red for Every Woman”
~Audrey Hepburn~
Happy Happy Monday family! Yes I know it’s the beginning of the week and many of you may be wondering why I’m so excited especially on a Monday morning. Well I’ll tell you why! This week I’m having some work done in my studio and its going to be so awesome that I just can’t contain myself!! It’s taken a lot of thought, planning and money but we’re finally here and ready to go with the design. Okay I have to say it one more time YIPPIE I’m SOOOOO excited!!! I’m not sure if you know but my studio, the blog and the MDT brand are truly labors of love for me.
It’s not about money because I have a career that takes care of that but I do it because I simply love sharing what I know about fashion, sewing and creating with all of you. That being said I promise to post a video tour of my new digs when its done along with several other videos I’ve been promising to shoot for some time now. LOL In the meantime I thought today would be the perfect time to kick off my California Fall pieces with my first lovely visions of Red two piece ensemble. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago I’ve truly been inspired by the Vibrant Red hues that hit the runway during the 2015 Pre-Fall designer shows. I knew I wanted to do a series of pieces utilizing rich Red hues so during my last shopping trip I made it my mission to pick out some fabulous textiles that would bring my visions of Red to life.
In lieu of the 100-degree weather in California I decided to give my shoulders a little more sun before I put them away for the next couple of months. So I decided to break out two of my favorite patterns and with a few simple changes I came up with this cute little number to get this RED party started. I hope you like what I’ve done here and that you get your own visions for fall started real soon. I truly think this is going to be a fun filled sewing season and I can't wait to see what everyone else feels inspired to create. Well loves that’s it for me today as I have tons of things to do in preparation for my new studio. I promise to check in with you later in the week with more fabulousness and a partial reveal of my studio!!
Hugs
Shari
Fabric Used: Red Gabardine from Angel Textiles
Top Pattern: Simplicity 1613 adding ½ yard to center front & center back of top pattern piece to get the extreme gathering affect I wanted. The sleeves I used the slash and spread method (you will find on my DIY &Tutorial Page) expanding the sleeve eliminating the close fit of the original design. This pattern I can do in my sleep and its one of my favorites! Even with the changes should take no more than 30 minutes to hour to sew.
Pants Pattern: I used Butterick 6066, added about 3” to the length of the pants, spread the flare about 1” all the way around and tightened the thigh area just a tad. Pants are quick and easy to sew shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to an hour.
Wind is blowing I swear the hem is even LOL
