"Making the simple complicated is commonplace. Making the complicated awesomely simple that's creativity."
~Charles Mingu~
Well sewing loves I'm off to New York and Maryland to visit family, eat until I pass out and shop for fabric until my credit card is burning! LOL The great thing is I'm traveling with my hubby this go around which gives us both the chance to relax and reconnect. Boy oh boy do we both need this! You will be happy to know the patterns for the Nina Ramel collection will are ready for the second test run and should be ready for release in September. This has been a long complicated process but I'm happy that Yuliya Raquel and the team at Bootstrap fashion have been on my side every step of the way.
So while I'm away I'll be sharing the second and third looks of the Mix & Slay Fall 2016 series along with my travels and shopping sprees which will be posted on the "My Life" Page of the website. The look I'm sharing with you today is another one of my favorites the Neoprene Vest mixed with a Tomato Red bustier and slayed with a pair of crop pleated faux leather pants. I absolutely adore how this turned out and it just goes to prove that by changing the style of pants and switching out the top you can create an entire new look that gives the vest new LIFE. That's what this series is all about sewing mixing and slaying for Fall with a few simple pieces. Well loves that's going to do it for me today I hope you're having as much fun creating your Fall 2016 pieces as I am creating mine.
Smooches from the east coast!
Of course you already know the deets on the vest but in case you forgot it's Simplicity 8177. The top I purchased from a little boutique about a year ago and actually forgot I had it! LOL As for the pants I used a Vintage Pattern I purchased last year with the intent of making a pair of pants worn by Jennifer Lopez that I drooled over! Trust me at first glance this pattern is nothing to drool over but when you look at the way it fits in the hips and tapers at the ankle area I knew it would be perfect for what I wanted to create. So I took about 3 inches off the length and tapered the bottom after cutting. I eliminated the belt loops/waistband and simply extended the front and back pants piece at the waist added facing, zipper, hook & eye and viola all done.
The faux leather purchased at Journal Fabrics Downtown Los Angeles & Neoprene purchased at LTJ Fabrics on 9th Downtown Los Angeles.
