Good morning lovelies and happy Monday! Yes it’s Monday the start of a new week full of opportunity and possibilities! At least that’s what I told myself this morning when it was time to get up and hustle at my nine to five! LOLL Whew sometimes you just have to talk to yourself, encourage yourself and say HEY I may have to hustle this way for a minute but I promise it's going to be greater later! Does that work you ask? Well most times YES it works and other times I just want to crawl back under the covers and sleep for a few more hours! LOL Anyhoo loves I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and that you had an opportunity to be creative and get those sewing juices flowing. As for me it was all about pictures, cutting new looks and filming a new tutorial for the floral belt which is a whole other story that I’ll save for another time! SHEESH, filming alone can be more than a notion but again I’ll save that for another time.
For those of you who follow my instagram account you know I was excited about this little refashion project that I started last week. I purchased this wrap dress from Zara’s that wasn’t very flattering (at least not like the picture on their website) and decided instead of returning it I would use it to bring another idea I had been thinking of to life. The foundation of the garment was exactly what I wanted but the fit including how it wrapped around my body was just WRONG! So I thought why not make a few minor changes add some tulle and get a little girly rock starish with it. After all it would be much cuter as a duster than a wrap dress. As it turns out I was right (at least in my opinion loll) I love having this as a duster and I see myself wearing it now opposed to the way it was originally intended. Not to say that the dress didn’t look great on the model posted on their website it did but mannnnn it did not translate that way for me at all when I tried it on, so I tweaked the heck out of it.
The first thing I did was close the vent in the back where the belt originally went through in order to wrap around the body (which by the way was totally weird). Once I closed the small vent I cut the wrap ties so they would match in length and then I added two long gathered tulle pieces around the entire garment right at the lower waist. Now the one thing I didn’t do was take the waist in for a more fitted look but after taking pics I definitely plan to add a few darts to cinch that waist in. I’m also considering adding two more layers of tulle to the duster for more drama after all can you ever have to much tulle or drama. Once I make these two modifications I will post more updated pics but for now it’s still really cute. Well loves that’s it for me today I hope you all have a fabulous rest of the week and stay tuned for more fabulousness coming up on the blog trust me you don’t want to miss whats coming down the pike here at MDT!
Hugs
Shari
P.S. When adding the tulle to the coat I measured from the bottom of the garment all the way up to the lower waist and made marks with my tailors chalk from one side of the garment to the other. My reason for doing this was to ensure that the tulle was even all the around and one side would not be higher or lower than the other. Once I had my line I took my gathered tulle pies and added them directly onto the chalk line making sure to stitch on top of the gathered stitch. Trust me this took all of one hour to do!
This is the original wrap dress from Zara! While I love the foundation of the garment I wasn’t at all thrilled with the fit as a wrap dress. I wanted a duster anyway so I thought shoot it’s only $40. why not just buy it and tweek it into something else! I love the tulle added to the dress but I think I’m going to take the waist in just a little bit more for a more fitted look!
