“Never use the word “cheap”. Today everybody can look chic in inexpensive clothes (the rich buy them too). There is good clothing design on every level today. You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans — it’s up to you.”
~Karl Lagerfeld~~
I love this comment by Karl Lagerfeld it embodies my sentiment of fashion and personal style perfectly. All too often people feel that being chic or stylish means you have to spend an enormous amount of money, shop at the top end stores (that you really can't afford anyway) or sport a pair of Red Bottoms to prove your fashion worthy! Well I'm here to tell you nothing can be further from the truth! Even when creating your own garments, its more about the message you're trying to deliver and more importantly as Coco Chanel says "the attitude of the women wearing it." Vibrant colors, beautiful fabric choices/textures and being mindful of a woman's body can turn a really inexpensive and easy to make garment into something wonderful!
While I'm not a textile or fashion expert so to speak, I know what I like, what feels good and what colors work best for me. My style is eclectic and free! There is no particular style I love more than another, they all appeal to me for many different reasons. I simply like what I like. Whether its chic in black lace, rock star in black in gold with over exaggerated statement pieces, pretty in off the shoulder pink or a pair of vintage jeans with killer high heels it's all about how it makes me feel and the confidence I have when I’m wearing it! I'm drawn to pieces that instantly make me feel like a million bucks regardless of what my bank account actually says! LOL
This is one reason I decided to make the infamous long panel blouse with the bow at the neck. Before I cut any fabric or made one stitch I envisioned how it would flow in the wind as I walked as if I was effortlessly moving without taking a step. I saw myself in the blouse before I completed it and I knew it would be fierce on me! It is for this very reason that I decided to retake pictures during my shoot this past weekend of this blouse in blue and grey! Thanks to Jerome Ming Lee at JML photography the pictures turned out great! I love the movement in the photo's he was able to capture as it took me back to my original vision prior to making this designer inspired blouse. So while some of you may have seen this before trust me YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT LIKE THIS! Enjoy!
