"The Color is Gold Children! How quickly fashion goes down the drain. Last week when you all was wearin' pink, already for me red was old. The ultimate brick is gold; that's the new color, children! Golden gold!"
~The Wiz~
I’m not sure how many of you have ever seen the musical/movie “The Wiz” not the Wizard of Oz but the Wiz! The Wiz is one of my family’s favorite movies. It’s become a tradition for us to watch during the holidays and has been since I was a child. In fact we play it every thanksgiving and somehow it never gets old!
One of my favorite scenes from the move is the Emerald City fashion Sequence, when the cast continually changes the color and style of their clothing! Of course you knew they didn't actually change garments during this scene (it was the lighting) but that didn't matter because it was all about the strut and boy could they strut! Consequently whenever I look for a gold or metallic fabric this particular scene is always in the back my mind. Gold or any type of Metallic fabric has to be done right, if not it can be extremely tragic, I know this from experience.
So last year I was looking for a gold medium weight metallic type fabric for a pair of pants I wanted to make. Needless to say I had a really tough time finding the exact fabric I wanted. In fact I never found the fabric for the pants but I did come across a metallic fabric I liked and thought it would make a really great skirt. Unfortunately I can’t strut like I wanted to in this black & gold pencil skirt but I do enjoy the way it gives and moves with the body nonetheless. So while I’m still in the market for the gold metallic fabric in my head, that will allow me to strut like my favorite scene from the Wiz; I’ve learned to be content with my memories and my pencil skirt!
If you have any questions regarding the pattern and how I made this skirt or the wrap blouse please comment below and I will post them on the current projects page as soon as possible. I hope you have a wonderfully creative day. Enjoy the pictures!
