"Fashion has always been a repetition of ideas, but what makes it new is the way you put it together."
~Carolina Herrera~
I love this particular quote by Carolina Herrera who happens to be one of my favorite designers. I mean is she speaking the truth or what! In actuality when you think about it there is nothing new under the sun! The difference between us comes from how we choose to manipulate and expound upon the basic pattern blocks. Personally I believe what makes fashion new and exciting are the fabrics one chooses when conveying their ideas.
I was talking to a friend of mine last week and we both laughed at the fact that fashion really is about the manipulation of the standard basic pattern blocks. I mean really when you think about it garments are brought to life by learning how to manipulate pattern blocks into the vision of the designer. So in reality the key to a great garment boils down to the vivid imagination/skill of the designer to transform a simple pattern block into something exquisite and wrap it in beautiful, luxurious fabrics.
If you are a fashion hog like me and you love searching the internet for fresh new ideas then maybe you've noticed the same basic garments circulating around several different fashion blogs and magazines. While there are few subtle changes to these basic pieces the only thing that really sets them apart is the fabric being used. It just goes to prove that you can take a really simple pattern block and transform it into something beautiful if you have a great imagination and you choose your fabrics wisely.
Happy Friday all my lovely Threaders!
