“It’s All About Finding The Calm In The Chaos.”
~Donna Karan~
Hello Lovelies! I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend and you’re ready to start the week with a bang! This weekend was a little chaotic for me as I seemed to struggle with my creative direction. For some reason my thoughts were all over the place and I found it difficult to stay focused on one project without being distracted by the idea of others dancing around in my head. So I decided to stop creating all together and focus on organizing my sewing room in the hopes of being able to calm my thoughts in the midst of my self-imposed chaos.
As I was cleaning off my shelves and folding all my new fabric I began to think of simple classic pieces that I love and thought to myself “When all else fails remember to keep it Simple & Chic.” I had to remind myself that I do what I do because I LOVE IT! When and if it becomes anything more than that for me then it’s time to re-evaluate my reasons for sharing my gifts via this type of platform. It was then that I recalled a specific quote I read from one of my favorite designers Donna Karan who said “It’s all about finding the calm in the chaos.” So I finished my cleaning and calmly thought about two classic pieces that I truly love and can never get enough of! EUREKA! It finally happened I knew at that very moment what I was going to make.
I now understand the chaos that was happening in my creative process was about me trying too hard to “Challenge” myself instead of simply making pieces that I love! While it’s great to be inspired by photos, vivid beautiful colors or people around you, it’s important you don’t allow that alone to dictate how and what you create. I say stick to what works and feels good to YOU! So to celebrate my trip back to basics I played around with the remaining yellow Natalie knit I purchased two weeks ago and made this simple off the shoulder top and wide leg palazzo pants! I wasn’t sure it would work with this fabric but it actually did and I am pleased with the results if I say so myself. The top is purposely gathered in the pictures just because I LIKE IT and the pants are a perfect fit! I hope you enjoy the pics and that you always remember to find the calm in the midst of chaos.
Hugs
