“Fashion takes its inspiration from society and everyday life, which is the same for everyone and this is perhaps the reason why certain elements recur”

Good Monday morning Lovelies! I’m not sure about you but man I felt like this weekend just flew by! Before I knew it Sunday evening was here and I didn’t get a chance to tackle half of the projects on my list!!! After going through my pattern boxes and inspiration photo’s I came to the conclusion that I need more FABRIC! Yes more FABRIC! I have so many ideas floating around in my head right now but I just don’t have the right fabric to bring them to life! With that being said my plans for the upcoming weekend will be filled with fabric shopping, on top of fabric shopping and yes more fabric shopping!
So stay tuned for another fabulous fabric haul video coming your way soon. In the mean time I did have some fabulous plum Ponte Roma fabric in my stash that I played around with over the weekend. I had about six yards and decided to maximize my use of this beautiful color for fall by cutting a dress, skirt and pair of pants out of it. Now keep in mind that Ponte knit can be a little warm to wear especially in this 93-degree weather we’re having in Southern California. So I wanted to make something that had a great fit and plenty of movement allowing for that cool breeze we long for in this crazy heat. While I won’t be wearing this garment anytime soon because of the weather we’re experiencing, I must admit I do love this fabulous plum color against my skin.
For this project I decided to make an oldie but goodie the dolman sleeve flare dress I made once before using a wonderful grey knit fabric. I thought this design would add just the right amount of drama to this plum fabric without over doing it. For the top portion of the dress I used Burda 7678 and altered it just a little by changing the V-neck in the front of the pattern into a sleek boat neck. This simple alteration provides me the option of wearing the dress on or off the shoulder. For the skirt I used the flare skirt-drafting tutorial that you can find on my Video & DIY page. This dress is truly a breeze to put together requiring that you simply connect the bodice and skirt at the waist and put in elastic if you want a little added security. All in all I do love this dress and I’m please with how it all turned out! I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week and I will check back in with you on Wednesday for more of my Fall wardrobe additions.
Hugs
For the top I used Burda 7678 and the skirt I used the Flare skirt tutorial posted on my Video & DIY page!
