"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways"
~Elizabeth Barrett Browning~
Happy Thursday morning Lovely sew family! I’m so excited because for once in a good long time we have cloudy overcast skies in Southern California. Oh how I long for the days when those cloudy skies stick around instead of burning off by 11:00am transforming into temperatures well into the 90’s. In celebration of this welcomed change I thought it would be a good idea to try and sneak in a couple of pictures (with some help from a couple of friends) first thing this morning before the clouds burned away. It felt so good being able to take pictures in one of my Fall wardrobe additions without feeling like I was going to pass out from heat exhaustion at any moment. Oh well I'll take the cool weather whenever I can get it, beggars can't be choosers! Now on to the Fall piece of the DAY!
The fabulous thing about this particular Fall piece is quite simply its versatility. This quick and easy coat takes about an hour from start to finish include cutting, serging and sewing. I mean it really is just that SIMPLE! So for those of us who haven’t really felt inspired to sew winter coats just yet this little ditty is a happy medium that’s sure to satisfy! The pattern instructions are very easy to follow which makes it a great project for beginner sewers who want to get their feet wet in the coat department. I would however suggest if you are going to use a thicker fabric with no give or ease to it that you definitely cut a size larger to account for this (especially in the sleeve/armhole area). All in all this was great little pattern and I highly recommend that anyone experiencing Faux Fall weather (like those of us on the West coast) give it a try!

Very Easy Vogue 8780
PLEASE READ THIS NOTE REGARDING SIZING!
Please note I used a wool blend for this particular coat pictured below and it has no stretch to it at all!! So if you are going to use any fabric other than knit please be aware that you should cut a size larger especially in the sleeve and armhole areas. If you do not do this it will be too tight and you may not be able to get it on!! If you use a sweater knit or any other knit fabric you should be fine as far as sizing goes!
Here's a couple of pics showing the details and different ways you can actually wear this type of coat.
