"Style is an expression of individualism mixed with charisma. Fashion is something that comes after style.”
~John Fairchild~
Good Monday morning Lovelies I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and you’re looking forward to an awesome Christmas holiday. I know I’ve been missing in action this past week but unfortunately I lost someone very near and dear to me this past Tuesday and I didn’t have it in me to sew or blog. If it were not for the loving memories of this special person resonating within my heart I doubt I would be here blogging and sharing with you all now. I want to thank you all for your well wishes, prayers and condolences via the various social media outlets I truly appreciate it and do not take the love and kindness you’ve shown my family for granted.
As a creative person I usually work through tough times by burying myself in my sewing studio. Being able to create something beautiful allows me the time and space to process what has occurred while slowly healing my wounds in the process. Unfortunately this time was a little different and it took me a while to really get my creative juices going. Rather than force it I decided to just sit in my studio for a while and think on the wonderful times we shared as family in the hopes that I would eventually feel like sewing or at the very least feel inspired.
It was at that very moment that I glanced over at a picture of his smiling face staring at me from my computer bringing an overwhelming sense of joy and laughter to my heart. Before I knew it that smile and the memories of his bigger than life personality propelled me head first into a creative frenzy. I found myself wanting to create something that made me feel light, uplifted and happy. I wanted to make something that made me feel that same happiness he lived by and shared with everyone he came in contact with. I realized that honoring his memory would be best served by sharing and living life to the fullest just as he had done. This I thought to myself would make him PROUD!
With that being said I decided to make something classic, light and full of life to share with you today. There’s something about a a big poofy tulle skirt and a nice crisp blouse that somehow makes you feel lighter. Whether you dress it up with a nice blouse and a great pair of shoes or bring the funk with a sparkled t-shirt, leather jacket and ankle boots you simply can’t go wrong with this poof ball of fun. I hope you enjoy the pictures but more than that I pray that you love your family a little harder and hold them a little tighter. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from my family to yours! Thanks for listening and for allowing me the time and space to express myself freely with you here on my blog.
Xoxo
I created the skirt myself and you will find a pictorial below and the video tutorial on my Video Page. The skirt has 10 layers and took 15-16 yards of silk-like Tulle!
I also made t-shirt in the second set of pictures using a fabulous bedazzled iron on!
How to draft & make the tulle skirt!
- Take your HIP measurement (Not your Waist) and divide that number by 6.28.
- Then take your skirt length measurement by measuring from your waist down to however long you want it.
- Once you have those numbers take the fabric of your underskirt place it on the fold and fold it again like so:
- Take the measurement you have from your hips that you divided by 6.28 and mark it on your fabric like so:
- Now take your skirt length measurement measure down from the waist markings you made and start making the same marks again like so:
Don't pay attention to that second line it was a boo boo! LOL
- Now cut out your waist and the hem of your skirt like so:
- After you cut it and open it up it will look like this:
- Do the same steps for your tulle and cut them out. Once you have all your tulle cut out open the circles and place them on top of the underskirt like so:
Now pin it!
- Now Create a Stay-Stitch around the waist like so:
- Once you do this sew around the waist then you can remove the stay-stitch:
- Once you remove he stay-stitch you can add your waistband but leave a space open to insert you elastic and there you have it!!!
