“Everything that Glitters isn’t always Gold sometimes it's Silver!”
~Me~
Good morning Sew Family and Happy New Year to you all! I hope everyone had a fabulous Holiday season and that your ready to get this 2015 party started! While 2014 was a blast I’m truly looking forward to all that the New Year has in store for M.D. Threadz. Now that the blog has a new look to match my sewing & style attitude I’m over the moon excited to get things rolling.
If you recall I made a pact with myself not to start any new projects before completing everything on my table from 2014. So before I wholeheartedly welcome in the New Year and all the fabulousness that it promises to bring I still have projects on my table to complete. One of the projects I recently completed was a silver metallic halter jumpsuit I loving refer to as my “Studio 54.” This jumpsuit took me back to the 70’s a time when halter-tops, slinky metallic fabrics and disco music thrived!
I’ve always been a lover of the 70’s and am often inspired by the fun, sexy and free “exploration” looks of this decade. So when I came across this Silver stretch knit fabric last year while on a shopping excursion I knew I had to have it. As I watched the vendor unravel the fabric my mind raced with thoughts of Barry White “Can’t get enough of your love baby.” This fabric screamed jumpsuit (surprise Lol) and being the fashion history buff that I am, thoughts of Studio 54 danced in my head. After all who doesn’t love a classic Barry White song and a great jumpsuit! Hollywood certainly does considering several movies this past year took us back to the fabulous fashion of this decade (as seen below).
So I decided to hop on board and celebrate one of my favorite periods in fashion! I hope you enjoy how I pulled it all together and maybe just maybe it will inspire you to revisit your favorite decade.
Hugs
My Inspiration
My Version
I used Burda 7065 for the top cutting the pattern two inches below the natural waist. I then merged the top with the bottom of this vintage Simplicity pattern 9059. The fabric is a metallic four way stretch knit that's fabulously easy to work with.
