I’ve learned… that the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am!

Hello my creative sewing family! Happy Friday, and to all the wonderful moms out there happy mother’s day in advance! It’s a wonderful day in the neighborhood and I’m knee deep in fabulous projects that I can’t wait to share with my sewing family next week. Inspiration for the Spring and Summer is truly in the air and I for one have been soaking it up left and right! I mean everywhere you turn there’s something or someone fabulous to get your creative juices flowing. So much so that my iPad, phone and camera have been on double duty snapping any and everything that catches my eye. Be it the vibrant color of a flower or a snapshot of a celebrity wearing something I have to have but can’t afford, if it moves me it’s in one of my devices. LOL
The fabulousness being released over the sewing internet, YES I said sewing internet has definitely increased my desire to do more draping and pattern drafting this week. . After all a girl’s got to do what a girls got to do especially if you want to create your own little slice of fashion heaven. Something else that’s got me excited is all the great books and resources available for those who want to take their sewing and design game to the next level of fabulousness. This past week I received my first in a three part series of “Drape” books by Hisako Sato. CAN YOU SAY EXCITED! After meticulously going through the book for about an hour I realized that I had to order the first and second book of the series as well.
Now family be warned this series of books does not give you step by step techniques on how to drape but it does provide FANTASTIC diagrams and printable patterns of styles that aren’t easily obtained via commercial patterns. Now let me say if you are new to draping or drafting and/or you haven’t really grasped the concept of working with commercial patterns, these won’t make a lot of sense to you. Not to say there too difficult to understand but they will seem foreign if you are new to sewing and working with patterns. To sum it all up this series of books provides a window into the world of draping/drafting via diagrams and printable patterns that can expand your knowledge of how to manipulate and create your own creative designs. Once you learn how things are constructed and put together it makes it easier to branch out and create your patterns be it through draping or flat pattern drafting. Well loves that going to do it for me as if I haven’t said enough! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend and Trust me this series of books would be a great addition to anyone’s sewing library.
Hugs
Shari
