“Simplicity is the ultimate form of Sophistication”
~Leonardo da Vinci~
Hello lovelies it’s hump day and man am I glad we’re half way through this week! As many of you I’ve been extremely busy with work this week, which unfortunately means I don’t have a lot of time to sew or record my tutorials. Having very little available time outside my office I had to stick with sewing projects that were simple, quick and didn’t require too much time!
With that being said everything fabulous doesn’t have to be intricate in design or take hours to make. I don’t know about you but I think some of the most chic garments are those with clean lines and simple, yet creative design elements. Of course I believe there are times when we have to go big or go home but I’m also a believer in “Less is BETTER.” Sometimes allowing the color, pattern and texture of your fabric to speak for itself really does work. Keeping all this in mind I decided to keep my sewing projects this week simple, creative and mot of all fun! Several weeks ago I purchased this fabulous Ponte Knit fabric from Fabric Mart.com and thought it would be great to incorporate it in a design that was chic, feminine and little edgy. I thought a fab pair of Harem pants with a crossover panel would give me just the edge I was looking to pair with a sheer stretch knit top I made many moons ago. The top is a sheer stretch jersey knit that I made out of a boat neck top pattern adding a gathered element at one shoulder (at the front and back). After pairing this fab top with these pants I’m not sure why I haven’t made this top again! LOLLL
Now I have to admit sometimes I worry about how far to take my so-called edgy looks considering my fabulous AGE! LOL While I do feel and hopefully look a lot younger than I am (LOL) I have to be careful with how far I try to take my edgy looks! In my own mind there is a thin line between being appropriately edgy for a woman my age and looking plan OL’ ridiculous! LOLLLL My goal was to carefully walk the line with this ensemble by utilizing some great fabrics a few choice accessories and some FAB shoes. All in all I think it turned out great and I absolutely love the look! I do hope you enjoy it as well and maybe even consider using some of these design elements in your own creations.
Hugs
Shari
How did I do it?
For the top I used my trusty T-Shirt Pattern McCalls 6964; I adjusted the neckline and added a gather element at the shoulder front and back. The pants I drafted myself using the Harem pants pattern instruction posted on my DIY & Tutorial Page. Once I made the pants patter I took a piece of pattern paper placed it on top of the pants pattern and traced out my crossover panel from there.
