“Style is about being yourself. It’s about being comfortable in your own skin”
~Oscar de la Renta~
Good Morning loves and happy Monday! The weekend is history and here we are moving on to the next! We’ve been dealing with some outrageously hot weather here in southern California and to be honest I think we’re all over it now. It can be a little difficult getting your mind right and ready for work when you look at the temperature gauge and it reads 80 degrees before you have a chance to drink your coffee. I’m telling you family this heat is a beast right now! I swear I’m getting ready for work and all the while I’m thinking to myself I need another shower just to cool off again SHEESH!
Now mind you we experience extreme temperatures here in California all the time but for some reason I seem to forget every year until it happens again! LOL Of course the heat tends to drain all your energy and all you really want to do is sit in an air conditioned room with a cold drink and the remote control. Unfortunately that would not be the case for me as I had tons of things to do including finishing up several sewing projects that have been on my table for weeks. Although most designers have presented their lines for Fall/Winter it’s been a little difficult for me especially when all I think about is creating pieces that help me beat the heat! Well this weekend I decided to compromise a little bit and scrap some of my cooler projects and opt for a few California Fall pieces. I decided to create a few simple pieces using various fabrics that not only breathe and move with the body but also represent the warm hues of fall.
Of course I have a long standing love affair with knits, so I decided to create pieces that could easily transition into fall but are cool and comfortable enough to wear right now. As much as I love culottes and wanted to wear them I never thought they looked good on me until now! These grey knit culottes are the business and when I tell you I thought I was really something I really did! HAAA Now you and I both know there are several patterns out for this particular style of pant but I decided to go with Vogue 9075 because of the pleats and overall fit. I actually made the jumpsuit for my mom and the way it cinched in at her waist made me drool. I thought shoot why not eliminate the top and make a pair of pants with the same patterns. So that's exactly what I did and I must say I love them! Mind you I couldn't imagine sewing anything warmer than a tank top to pair with the pants so I opted for my own version of a chic stylish tube top! LOLLLL Hey what can I say family it was cool comfy and most of all it actually worked! You know me I'm the queen of simple yet chic but comfort is an absolute must as well. So until next time loves remember where there's a will there's a way and I found my way around creating in extreme heat this weekend.
Hugs
Shari
I used Vogue 9075 eliminated the top and added lining and waistband to the pants. To create lining I followed these steps:
- taped the pleats closed on the pants front/back pattern pieces
- Then I measured down the side seam one inch past the pleat line and made a notch there on both pattern pieces.
- After marking my notch I traced out the pattern pieces stopping at the notch line and crossing over to the center front/back.
- Remember your seam allowance was already included the pattern piece for the front and the back. However if you like you can add a tiny bit for ease (I did not add ease because I used knit and it all worked out great)
Here is Vogue 9075 very popular this summer!
