“Spring is the time of projects and plans!”
~ Unknown ~
Hey sewing loves happy hump dayyyyyy! I’m so happy to be back in the MDT house sharing some spring time love with my sewing family. This past weekend was all about the easy sew cotton projects and this light weight beauty is one I managed to crank out. After going through my closet I realized the one thing I don’t have enough of is Spring and Summer tops. I know can you believe it, I literally went through my closet and fell short in the fabulous top/blouse selection. That’s not to say that I don’t have any cool tops because I do but light weight cotton tops of various styles was clearly missing.
While draping and pattern drafting is something I can clearly do I realized that so many of my sewing loves don’t so I want to give and share commercial/Indie pattern options to my projects. This top is an easy make and something even newbie sewers can accomplish in no time. A great pattern recommendation to start for this top is Simplicity S0917 View B/D. I mean literally you can’t go wrong with this one it’s easy peezy and will only require a few simple adjustments to achieve this look. I’ve listed the deets on this one below so check it out and join me on this journey of Fabulous Spring/Summer easy sewing!
Hugs
Top:
Take Simplicity S0917 view B/D and shorten the front of the pattern to suit your needs. If you are okay with the length then by all means leave it as is.
Take the front and back pattern pieces and make them wider using the slash and spread method found on my DIY page.
Once you do the slash and spread method take your hip curve and smooth the hem out so that the front and back merge at the side seam.
Once you smooth out the hem you are all done with the adjustments simply sew according to the pattern instructions. As a side note I left the front of my top split from the waist down for a different spin. I also cut several embroidered pieces from the fabric and made some applique pieces to attach to the front of the top
