“People will stare so make it worth their while”
~Harry Winston~
Good morning sewing family I hope today’s post finds you in good spirits! I had a fantabulous weekend working with my awesome mentors and sharing my vision for the MD Threadz brand. I wish I could tell you all about it but just know that soon and very soon you will see what I've been so excited about. I promise lovelies it will all be worth the wait!
In other news on the MD Threadz home front I had my photo-shoot with my fantastic photographer at JML whom I missed terribly!! Mr. Minglee did a fabulous job with the pics this weekend and reminded me of just how much I enjoy having him as part of the MD Threadz family. For those of you who follow my blog regularly you may recall the post from last week where I discussed using the blue alligator print fabric I recently purchased on my last shopping trip to the fabric district. While I was a little scared this particular fabric would be a little overwhelming to say the least I have to admit it kind of brought out the funky diva in me which honestly isn't such a bad thing. I call the first look I’m sharing today my homage to Pam Grier as the always fabulous Foxy Brown!
Now don’t despair ladies I did make some alternate pieces to mix things up a bit for those who haven’t tapped into their inner funky diva quite yet. LOLEither way I really don’t think you can lose with these pieces! I hope you enjoy what I did with the fabric and that you feel inspired to step out the box and try something new yourselves! Stay tuned for more fabulous combinations using the blue alligator and black Ponte knit textiles coming up later this week!
Hugs
Blue Top = I used Burda 6850 View "A" which was very true to size for me.
Pants= I used Butterick 6066 View E and added my own waistband based on my waist measurements. I made the waistband about 5 inches high because I knew the top was cropped thus I decided to simply extend the waistband height.
Black top = I used a basic top pattern McCalls 7020 extended the shoulders to make a large box shape almost like a cape and followed the same pattern instructions. By making a large box shape I'm able to tie the top in the front, back or keep it open for a full look.
The fabric is a knit alligator print I found at Michael Levine's. It feels like leather but stretches/gives like knit (which is how they classify it).
The Black top shown below is a Rayon Jersey knit I purchased from Saman-Tex another downtown vendos.
Happy Sewing!
