"It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere I go”
~Meredith Wilson~
Good Monday morning lovely sew family! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend filled with lots of sewing, baking, eating and all around Holiday preparation fun! I had big plans in my head for the weekend but forgot I had to go into the office, thus my plans were temporarily put on hold. One of the main things I wanted to accomplish was restocking my fabric selection as I’m running extremely low. Unfortunately I worked late into the evening and when I arrived home it was all about spending time with my family. So I resolved to take some time this weekend to sneak some fabric shopping in before things really get started with hubby and the kids. Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck! LOL In the meantime I completed the five holiday party pieces I was working on and I’m ready to tackle a few more.
I decided to make holiday looks that would be simple and easy to recreate no matter what skill level sewer you are. After all, your time should be spent having fun with your friends and family not frustrated with some complicated out of this world pattern that takes even the seasoned sewer hours to figure out. That being said I took a simple vintage peasant blouse pattern and self drafted my own pencil skirt to create this second holiday look (the first being the red jumpsuit posted last week). If you’re not sure how to draft your own pencil skirt you can find instructions I posted here on my blog November 7, 2014. Consequently choosing these patterns alone without incorporating just the right fabric would not give me the look I was going for. In order to give these simple yet chic pieces that holiday feel I decided to incorporate the use of chiffon and sequins fabric along with some great sparkling accessories. Now I will admit that while I love the soft sheerness of chiffon and the sparkle of sequins these are my least favorite textiles to work with.
If ever I could just think something into existence it would have been these two pieces!!! Talk about the blues! Sheesh! Of course you have to be careful, take your time and really slow things down when working with these textiles but the end result is FANTASTIC! I hope you have a wonderfully productive week and stay tuned for more holiday looks throughout the month.
Hugs
