"Weather Forecast: Cold Conditions & Hot Fashion!"

Good Monday morning sewing loves! Here we are at the start of a new week and I don’t know about you but I could use a do over weekend. After being locked in my studio all weekend I feel like time flew by without me. The good news is despite my injury I was able to finish another fabulous project.
Now keep in mind it takes me twice as long to get things done, (leg injury) but somehow I made it through and I only needed one glass of wine! LOL A couple of weeks ago Michael Levines had a sale on wool bundles at $5 per yard, yes you heard me right FIVE DOLLARS for WOOL! The bundles came in 3, 4 and 5 yards and of course I snatched up as much of it as I possibly could. My initial plans for the wool was to make some fabulous pants for work but then I thought why not throw in a full length cape to kick things up a notch or two. So I grabbed my wool along with two patterns I've been dying to try out and went to work.
While I have several cape patterns I only have one full length pattern that would not require any adjustments Burda 7154. There was something about this pattern that spoke to me and let me tell you I'm so glad I listened. For the pants I went with the new Cynthia Rowley for Simplicity pattern 8058 because I love a good fit and flare pants leg but as you read on you'll discover how important it is to pay attention and listen to your first mind! As luck would have it the cape pattern was simple and worked out perfectly but the pants not so much. LOLL Don't get me wrong the pants turned out ok but there are a few things I would do differently before using it again. One is read the envelope carefully because if you don't you will do like me and cut it in wool when it says STRETCH KNITS! DUHHH I mean really Shari you didn't pay attention to the View B fabric suggestion! Nope I guess I saw what I wanted to see in the end! LOL Also Considering the design of the pants and my "behind"
I would prefer an invisible zipper instead of the semi exposed zipper method suggested. I used a metal zipper and I still don't like it but hey that's just me! Despite my error I have a feeling this pattern still runs small even if you use a double knit. Now keep in mind this is my personal opinion but it could prove useful for those of you with a little something, something going on behind you i.e., junk in the trunk! LOL All in all I still love how everything turned out and I guarantee this ensemble will be in heavy wardrobe rotation. Well loves that's it for today I hope you have a wonderful week and I'll check back with you soon!
Hugs
Shari
I swear the pants pattern run small! I used a size 12 (that never happens)DUHHHHH Shari read the envelope carefully YUP I read it wrong yall! So yes I will make them again but using double knit ONLY! The cape is fully lined and a bit heavy which is perfect for cooler weather.
I guess you could say I needed somewhere to put my hands!LOLL But I didn't realize it was pulling on the pants in a weird way! UGH I need a camera man that will tell me these things cause my daughter is slacking!!!
Here we go again and you think she would say "Mom stop your pulling on your pants."
Before Ironing the arm opening of the cape I placed a piece of hard card stock between the facing and the outer layer of the cape. This prevents you from being able to see the facing clear through the other side. Try it I promise it works!
As you see in the picture below a clean ironed opening with no outline of the facing.
I used View A for this project
For the pants I used this new Cynthia Rowley pants pattern.
