“Black has always been my go to color!”
~Me~
Hello Sewing family here we are on day two of our week-long series on how to freshen up your wardrobe for Spring/Summer with a few simple pieces. Now normally I don’t post back to back at least not anymore due to my schedule but I’m so excited about sharing this series that I just couldn’t wait until Wednesday to get things going again. So I’ve decided to share the looks for the first half of the week and then share a few sewing tips and videos on how I brought it all together.
Okay so let me start by saying, I know most folks don’t consider black to be a color choice for Spring, but on the contrary, I say Black never goes out of style no matter the season. I mean if you do it right I guarantee the last thing folks will recognize is that you don’t have on pink, white or yellow, you know the usual suspects for this time of year. Not to mention me and my husband love hanging out doing our date night thing and I think this look definitely says “Honey I’m ready to go on our first official Spring date!” LOL I would also ask that you consider that fact that black literally goes with anything and as you’ll see later in the week adding a sprinkle of Spring color (yes the usual suspects) to a black backdrop can really set your wardrobe party off! I promise when you see all five pieces together and how you can mix and match them with pieces you have in your closet I guarantee it will all make sense.
Now let’s jump right in to what we have going on with the look for today! One thing I knew I wanted to add to my wardrobe was a really great quality pair of jogger style pants. Now when I say quality I mean a pair of pants that will stand the test of time and can transition into several different looks, unlike what you find in most of your chain stores. I also knew I wanted my joggers to look like they belong on my body not my 27 or 21 year old daughters. So when I saw this particular Burda pattern I knew it was perfect for what I wanted to accomplish. The great thing about my choice is I WAS RIGHT! Yes I was right these pants are FABULOUS and I definitely plan on adding several more to my wardrobe. I did add a few design changes which I promise to go over with you later in the week as we wrap things up. Until then check out what I have to share with you today and let me know what you think about it!
Hugs
Shari
The Fabric is a double knit fabric that is indescribably FABULOUS! In inspecting this knit I believe that not only is it a warp knit (smooth doesn't unravel but has little vertical stretch) it may have been produced with spandex fiber which will add an amount of stretch to the fabric.
Here's a tid bit from Threads Magazine about adding spandex to certain knits: Garments made from fabrics with spandex can be comfortably fitted closer to the body. Although spandex imparts increased stretch and give to knits, it's the ability to "recover" (or bounce back to its original state) that spandex adds that's prized by manufacturers and sewers alike, since the resulting garments retain their shape.
