It's that time of year when.........
Hair gets lighter, Skin gets darker, Drinks get colder, Music gets louder, nights get longer and life just feels BETTER!
Hey my fabulous sewing loves I'm back in the middle of the week to share a quick post with you. While I don't usually have the time to pop in on you during the middle of the week very often I thought hey I have some time and an extra look done so let's pop in and surprise them.
I love coming to hang out with you here as much as I can and as I transition into the summer months (warmer weather) I may be able to do so more often. For now loves I simply take what I can get!LOL So let's go ahead and get to the topic for the day SLEEVES, SLEEVES and more SLEEVES! In case you haven't noticed this Spring and Summer promises to be the season of the sleeve. From caped sleeves to cascading, tucked and pleated you name it, it's out there. As a result of the emphasis on sleeves I have to say I am truly enjoying getting in the studio and playing around with different ideas. Even revisiting some old favorites and breathing new life into them with a little dramatic sleeve action.
With that being said today I'm sharing one of my favorites, the off the shoulder top pattern and mixing it with one of my summer must haves the high-lo circular flounce sleeve. Now normally when you think of spring and summer you don't really think of black neoprene, but in my defense I decided to go with it because I wanted to see how the weight of neoprene I recently purchased would react to both design elements. Overall I liked how it turned out and plan to make another one a little longer as a dress (which by the way I think I prefer over the top skirt look). So I guess you could say you'll never know if the ideas in your head will work unless you get out there and give it a try! Well loves I truly appreciate you stopping in to hang out with me this week and I look forward to bringing you more summer fabulousness soon! Until next time have a fabulous SEW rest of the week.
Hugs
Top: any off the shoulder pattern you like should work. To get the flounce look refer to my Slash & Spread Pictorial posted on the DIY/Video Page.
Sleeve: Instead of reinventing the wheel I simply took the Circular Flounce pattern piece from McCalls 7542. I simply measured the hem of the top sleeve pattern piece to ensure it would fit perfectly in the circle of the flounce. It was about and 1/2" too big so I decided to increase the circumference of the circle instead of decreasing the size of the sleeve.
Skirt: New Look 6433 (tapered to give it that VAVAVA VOOM) it so desperately needed. See post dated March 16, 2016 the "Freshen Up Your Wardrobe" Series for more details.
