Hello Sewing Loves! I’m back to share my latest make with y’all today. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to really sew or create anything. Unfortunately work has me quite busy these days along with our planner and fabric box product orders. So much so that I’ve had very little time for anything else. The upside is the sewing community has been busy sharing some amazing makes so I’ve been able to live vicariously through all of you.
In September I received my monthly email from Minerva Fabrics as one of their maker team members. As I browsed the list clicking on link after link, I came across some fabulous Boucle fabrics that caught my attention right away. I was immediately struck by the beauty and color of this fabric and knew I had to have it. This Boucle is hands down my favorite fabric from Minerva to date!
Whenever I see Boucle fabrics I immediately think of beautiful coat designs. While I wasn’t sure what style coat I was going to create I knew it was going to be amazing. After browsing through my extensive pattern stash I finally decided to use Simplicity Pattern 8797 for my project (Minerva request that we use commercial patterns). Honestly it just seemed to be a perfect match for this Boucle fabric (see pattern cover below).
After cutting and preparing my pattern pieces I realized there was a nice amount left over and thought to myself why not make a pair of pants. I pulled back from that Idea thinking it may be a bit much but my reservations were quickly erased after seeing former First Lady Michelle Obama at the recent Inauguration ceremonies and decided to go with my first mind! Yesss Pants it is!
For the pants I used one of my favorite Flare leg Burda pants Patterns (6891). While this particular pattern doesn't have lining I decided to create one for a clean look not to mention I didn’t want to have the Boucle directly against my skin. It took a little longer to complete the pants but in the end it was well worth it! When it was all said and done I took a step back and fell in love with this fabric all over again. This will go down as one of all time favorite Winter/Fall looks and I will wear these pieces with pride.
I chose are easy breezy! So for all you Newbie sewers fear not you definitely got this. Well sewing loves I hope this one inspires you to make something fabulous for yourselves! Until next time keep sewing and creating!
Hugs Shari
Oh & This happened………
On another note I experienced something really uncomfortable this weekend that caught me off guard to say the least. While taking pictures at the large outdoor Mall five minutes from where I live I was approached by security and told I was not allowed to take pictures. Mind you I take pictures at this mall all the time because of its close proximity to my home. I informed the security guard that I in fact take pictures there all the time and was told by another security guard/mall police that I could take pictures as long as I used my camera phone as professional cameras are not allowed.
The security guard apologized and walked away (we thought things were fine) unfortunately it was not okay as she proceeded to contact additional security! While we could have made a stink my sister and I decided it wasn’t worth it and began walking away. As we walked away I noticed several additional security guards approach and surrounded one of the vendor booths nearby. It turns out the women who manages the little tike train ride for kids complained about me taking pictures and asked security to come and remove me from her area. The thing is there were other individuals taking pictures in the area but I was the only African American and the only one told I couldn’t take pictures there. Again keep in mind bloggers take pictures at Victoria Gardens all the time I know because we run into each other talk and comment about great areas at the mall to take pictures. We all had on our masks and would only remove them quickly to take a quick shot. If you know about camera phones you can take 20 pictures in less than a minute especially when you’ve been doing it as long as we have.
Trust me I was angry and upset but decided when Karens go low I will go high! There was absolutely no reason for this and I am truly disappointed but not surprised that this happened at a place where I dine and shop regularly!! I will be contacting management regarding the matter and plan to find out why security felt it necessary to come out in force to inform a blogger that she could not take pictures! This was not only sad but really disheartening considering all we did was take a few pictures. I will keep you all posted regarding the outcome once I speak with management.
